Gustaf Rydberg (1835-1933) was a Swedish landscape painter.

He studied at The Düsseldorf Academy in Germany with the masters Hans Fredrik Gude and Oswald Achenbach

Those teachers were masters of lighting. Rydberg focused on plein-air painting. As he did so he was inspired by Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot.

According to Nordic Landscape Painting in the Nineteenth Century, "the ground in Rydberg's paintings is often worn into paths and tracks of wagons or other human activities, all reinforcing the impresssion of a real world that has not been rearranged to fulfill aesthetic criteria."
